Obviously an essential topic to discuss! I am often asked will chocolate make my spots worse, some clients even saying they know if they consume chocolate in the evening they will wakeup with spots the next day. The good news is there is no scientific evidence to suggest chocolate actually does cause spots. HOWEVER the real connection comes from the added sugar, dairy, palm oil’s in a lot of the chocolate available all of which are not at all good for our skin, GI balance, hormone balance and gut health.
Quality over Quantity
Cocoa in its purer form (i.e. chocolate) is great for the skin. High in flavonols (antioxidants that help prevent the skin from UV damage) and also promote blood flow, vitamins, antioxidants and minerals, with anti-inflamatory effects, the aroma alone can release seratonine in the brain, the happy hormone reducing stress hormones. Pure and dark is the way forward.
Some of my all time favourite “healthy” chocolate
Boogie Booja – Organic, dairy free, gluten free, soy free and taste out of this world, I hide these from the kids! I love them all but personal favourite is the raspberry truffles, keep them in the fridge (if you don’t finish a box in one sitting)
Divine chocolate – Sooo many amazing flavours to choose from & a company doing so much good for the global chocolate farming communities.

Green and Blacks – organic chocolate easily accessible to all, these guys have been real pioneers in making “healthier” chocolate available on our door steps. I love the way the packaging says very clearly the % of chocolate in the bar, the higher the % the more antioxidants. I love the gift boxes with variety flavours so you don’t have to choose your favourite, you can have them all!

Alternatively why not try making your own healthy alternatives with melted dark chocolate and your favourite fruits. Sliced bananas, strawberry, orange segments, blueberries, so many fruity alternatives, healthy for all the family. My current personal favourite is dark chocolate covered Kiwi slices for extra tangly Vitamin C with your antioxidants.
