Did you see my recent blog on finding the right cleanser for your skin type? I believe that cleansing is the most important part of your skincare routine – it gets rid of dirt and make-up leaving your skin clean and polished.
But how do you know you’re doing it right? Follow these tips below and your skin will be glowing in no time…
Do it twice a day every day! A night time cleanse allows you to remove make-up and grime from the day but it’s just as important to cleanse in the morning too. Your skin eliminates toxins overnight via the pores so removing this first this will help your products to absorb into the skin more easily making them more effective.
When cleansing it’s important to use a massaging action as this will help to bring fresh blood to the surface of your skin which will help to make it look fresher and healthier.
Double cleansing in the evening is a good practice to get into – your first round will remove any grime and make-up whilst the second round will get deep into the pores. You can use the same product for both but I love using a cream for the first round and a gentle wash for the second.
You might have heard the buzz around Micellar Waters recently – they’re a bit of a combination between a traditional cleanser and toner brought over from France – that works by using tiny round balls of cleansing oil called micelles that float in water. Do be mindful that you may need a second cleanse after using one of these as they’re more of a make-up remover but if you have sensitive skin or eczema they can be really gentle.
With all this in mind, follow my 5 steps below to achieve the perfect cleanse each morning and night.
- Warm your cleanser between the palms of your hands.
- Massage it into the face to stimulate blood flow and start detoxification working around your whole face using smaller circles around your mouth and larger ones around your eyes.
- Add warm water to your face.
- Remove the cleanser with a warm cloth
- Finally splash your face with cold water to close your pores and freshen your complexion.
And voila your skin will thank you for it! Find out more skincare tips and techniques in my new book ‘Love Your Skin’ available on amazon now.
