Are ingredients that we eat just as beneficial for our skins beauty as they are for the body?
We forget that the skin is the largest organ of the body, it is a living organ, it grows new cells and sloughs off old ones all the time, so needs feeding healthily from both inside and out. As much as the skin is our protective barrier it has the ability to absorb up to 70% of what we put on it, there is some controversy as to how much the skin absorbs but an example of this ability in medicine is the application of hormone or nicotine patches applied to the skin to administer drugs that will penetrate the skin through it’s layers and into our blood stream.
Different ingredients, herbs, minerals, have varying benefits to the skin when applied topically as they do when we digest them internally. Using the best, fresh, quality ingredients all has an impact on the effectiveness of a product, we all know that if we over boil our vegetables a lot of the healthy nutrition will be lost, products that do not heat above body temperature in the production of them will also help maintain the healing properties to the skin, maintaining the “raw” state of its ingredients, making them more than just natural and organic but highly active and effective.
We are all becoming more aware of the importance of Antioxidants in the battle against premature ageing and restoring the damage of free radicals, so with the skins ability to absorb surely the battle is best fought from the inside and out!
Collagen and elastin is one of the substances which gives our skin it’s youthfulness and is especially susceptible to free radical damage. With this damage to collagen molecules are no longer able to slide over one another giving our skin it’s softness but becomes stiff and inflexible, using skincare with inbuilt antioxidants will help repair this damage.
Eat a health balanced diet, mainly fresh vegetables with a good amount of protein is probably the best health advice I have been given, this also applies to skin care, cut back on the chemicals and go natural with products
