Welcome to the wedding season!
If you’re a bride making you final preparations for the big day you’ll know that there’s a lot to do before your big day and it’s easy to forget about your wedding skincare routine. You may have had the dress fitted and the make up artist booked but have you thought about how you’ll be looking after your skin, body and hair in the months leading up to your big day. And it’s so important not to leave it till the last minute as not only will it help you to take some time back for you but any stress you’re feeling will show in breakouts on your face.
So over the next few weeks I’ll be showing you how to prep for your big day so that you can look and feel the best that you should.
And today we’re starting with your face.
6 MONTHS BEFORE
So the key to having radiant skin on your wedding day is to prep. And i don’t just mean a week or so before! If you’ve suffered from any skin concerns such as breakouts or acne in the past then it’s best to start planning your facials in at least 6 months before your wedding date. If your skin is slightly more balanced then you can leave it till 4 months before your wedding.
A good habit to get into is advanced booking – put it in your diary just as you would a trip to the doctor’s and make sure you stick to it. After all your skin is the biggest organ in your body and you want it to look your best on your big day.
But you can’t just rely on facials to keep your skin clear, you need to make sure your at home routine is working for you too. Talk to your facials and invest in masks and serums that they agree work for you as I guarantee these will make a big difference to the appearance of your skin.
It’s also a good time to book in your initial make up appointment – try to do it on the same day as your initial hair appointment so that you can see how they look together.
3 MONTHS BEFORE
A couple of months before it’s time to start thinking about the shade and shape of your eyebrows. Find a groomer who you really like and who knows how to work with the shape of your face. For a super flattering effect try and keep your eye brows as full and natural as possible as this will give a youthful effect – this may mean sticking to threading and tweezing rather than waxing. If you’re planning to tint your eyebrows then now is the time to try out shades – note down combinations you try and see which outcome you feel compliments your skin tone best.
1 MONTH BEFORE
Now is a good time to book in your final make up trial. This will give you chance to see how your make up is sitting on your face after your new skincare regime. Take pictures so that you can show your facialist any last minute concerns you may be having – problem areas that they can look at on your final visit in a few weeks time.
2-4 WEEKS BEFORE
Make a date and book in your final pre wedding facial 2-4 weeks before your big day. Talk to your facialist beforehand and look out for treatments that will boost oxygen as this will ensure that your complexion looks plumped, fresh and radiant on the day. It’s also a great way to ensure that your makeup will sit smoothly on your face. It’ll give you the extra confidence boost you need.
THE NIGHT BEFORE
When it comes to the big day itself, make sure you sleep in a nourishing or brightening mask to give yourself a glow when you wake up. But make sure this is something you’ve trialled in advance – you don’t want any skincare reactions or scares at the last minute.
FINALLY
Don’t forget that planning a wedding is stressful! Unfortunately stress can show on your complexion so make sure your skincare isn’t an afterthought. If you stick to a schedule then it’ll help you feel calm and zen throughout the planning process.
